Erase Your Data Before You Sell Asus Used Laptop

Selling your old items for a little extra cash is not something new but these days you need to be careful when you get rid of things such as laptops and home come computers. Before you can sell Asus used laptop and the like, you need to erase all your personal data.

Many people decide to sell Asus used laptops as well as sell Asus laptops which are new. If you do sell Asus laptop or rather sell Asus used laptop then you need to make sure that all your personal information is wiped off it first so that it cannot fall into the wrong hands, or into anyone's hands for that matter.

Personal data

There could be a terrifying amount of sensitive personal data stored on your laptop or PC's hard drive. Passwords, bank account numbers, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and a whole lot more including browsing histories, bookmarks and photos.

As long as you control access to your PC while you're still using it, this is fine. It's when you decide to dispose of it that it can become a real worry. In fact, dumping old PCs and hard disks is a data-security nightmare.

Fortunately it's easy to delete your data. Just don't make the mistake of thinking that emptying the Windows Recycle Bin will do the job. It won't. Also, a quick format of your hard disk won't remove the data. What you need is a dedicated secure erase program. You could alternatively remove the hard drive from the laptop or PC and physically destroy it, but this means you can't sell or give away your computer in a working state.

It's worth fishing out the original restore discs that came with your laptop and using them to return the PC to the state it came out of the factory. This may be on a hidden hard disk partition.

Wipe all personal information

While many recyclers and donation programs offer to wipe your hard drive for you, people recommend erasing all personal data yourself for safety reasons. Don't forget to back up everything you need first!

Some beginners fall into the trap of thinking that simply deleting personal files will do the trick. This makes your data harder to find, but doesn't erase it entirely. An experienced programmer can still retrieve it easily. Rather, experts recommend fully overwriting your hard drive, preferably multiple times, and then re-installing your operating system from scratch if you need to (for instance, if you're donating the computer). After all, physically smashing your hard drive to bits may be satisfying, but it still doesn't solve the problem of environmental contaminants.

There could be a number of reasons as to why you want to sell used Asus laptops, such as it being no longer the version you need, or because you just want a new one, or even to raise a little bit of extra cash if you are facing financial problems. Whatever the reason, just back up and then remove all your personal date before.
