Review for Acer Chromebook C710

The Chromebook is a new generation of laptops which uses the brand new Chrome OS as the operating system. What's intriguing about these laptops is that all of the data are stored online in a cloud database. The data can be accessed through the use of an internet connection. Though this may seem a little bit restrictive when it comes to accessibility, there are still some apps which can be used offline. The new and innovative way that Chromebooks provide access to user data was met favourably by the public with many educational institutions purchasing Chromebooks for school use. Also, many laptop manufacturers have decided to enter this industry due to the Chromebook's success. In this article, the Acer Chromebook C710 will be reviewed and analysed.

Brief Overview

The Acer C710 is a Chromebook that was released back in November 2012. This laptop has hardware features that are similar to those of a netbook. It is meant for productivity purposes and as such, does not have the capability to run high-end games. The C710 is Acer's 2nd take on the Chromebook industry after the relatively low success of their AC700 Chromebook laptops. This means that the C710 is an upgraded version of the AC700.

Features and Specifications

The Acer Chromebook C710 comes in many variants that differ in their processor, battery life, RAM, HD storage, and weight. The C710 has a screen size of 11.6 inches and has dimensions of 1.1 by 11.2 by 8.0 all measured in inches. It uses an Intel HD Graphics card for its GPU and an Intel Celeron processor for its CPU. The laptop also has an HD webcam as well as different ports for connectivity. The connectivity options are 3 USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, a VGA port, an SD card reader, and a Kensington slot. The laptop has Wi-Fi and Ethernet but does not have Bluetooth connectivity. The battery life of the laptop ranges from 3.5 hours to 7 hours while the RAM comes in either 2GB or 4GB. For storage, the laptop uses one of the following: a 320GB HDD, 16GB SSD, and 500 GB HDD.

The Acer Chromebook C710 fits very well in the specifications needed to run a laptop that has the Chrome OS. As far as power is concerned, the C710 offers just enough to make things run smoothly. The 2GB or 4GB RAM is enough to ensure that apps can run simultaneously while the storage options ensure that enough storage is given for offline apps. Remember that data is stored on the cloud, meaning that offline storage is not an issue with these laptops. For the price that it is sold, the C710 is very much a bargain considering everything that the user gets. It is worth mentioning however that the laptop does not have built-in Bluetooth. A Bluetooth dongle is therefore necessary for Bluetooth connectivity.
